Marble statue of Aesculapius the Greco-Roman god of
healing, on the landing of the Great Staircase of the
College. Carved by Carlo Manetti (d.1920) in Rome, after
the original which is in the Vatican and dates from
150 A.D. Shown holding the staff with the snake
coiled around it, now the symbol of medicine.
