Maitre-Jan, ATraite des maladies de l'oeil (1707).

Antoine Maitre-Jan (1650-1730), the father of French ophthalmology, penned this work based on his experimental and clinical work.  He was the first to mention retinal detachment and also confirmed Pierre Brisseau's (1631-1717) assertion that a cataract is an opaque lens and not a structure in front of the lens.
