Groenveldt, J. A Compleat Treatise of the Stone and Gravel (1710).
Jan Groenveldt or John Greenfield (1647?-1710), a Dutch-born physician, who practiced in London beginning in 1683, took his medical degree from the University of Utrecht in 1670. His thesis, "De Calculo Vesicae," was translated into English and published in London in 1667. This 1710 edition is a significant enlargement of his original work and features many additions and plates showing the suprapubic technique of lithotomy. Groenveldt was a well regarded specialist on gout and stone, however, his peers often denounced him as a quack for his fervent advocation of the use of cantharitic drugs.
