Gray, H.  Anatomy, Descriptive and Surgical (1859).

Henry Gray (1825-1861) published his famous anatomy in London in 1858.  The book is lucidly written and clearly organized.  Among its advantages are a close relationship between text and illustration and the discussions on surgical anatomy, one of Gray's innovations.  The 1859 American edition was edited by Richard J. Dunglison (1834-1901), a Fellow of the College of Physicians.  Gray's Anatomy remains a standard work to this day in the English-speaking world, having gone through over 37 editions.

The digitized text concerns the eye, one of Gray's particular interests.
