Cheselden, W. A Treatise on the High Operation for the Stone (1723).
In 1727, William Cheselden (1688-1752), English surgeon and anatomist, invented the lateral technique of lithotomy, which is still used today. This work explains Cheselden's earlier method of suprapubic lithotomy and reprints descriptions of his predecessors' operations, including the basic principles laid out by François Rousset (1535-1590?), in his work on caesarian sections, Traitte nouveau de Physterotomotokie, ou enfantement caesarien (Paris: Denys du Val, 1581).
